Warcry – Part 2: Terrain and Starter Set Finished

Wow – Covid-19 has really knocked me off my usual blogging game. Before lockdown I managed to finish painting the terrain and Iron Golems from the Warcry starter. Really enjoyed this coming together – just gutted that I won’t get to play it any time soon 😦

That looks lovely – the little patches of moss on there are a great touch. I really must bash on and get mine finished.

Thanks – it is a great set. I still think Warcry is the most innovative & interesting think they have done with AoS to date. The new Scions of the Flame look bery tempting!

Yup, I’m 100% with you there. Second edition AoS convinced me that the setting was good, Warcry turned me into a fan.

I like the Scions, although there are a few things I’d like to tweak about them if I do get them (which, let’s be honest with ourselves, I probably will). Some of them are just outstanding though, I really like the girl with the torch – one of the best AoS models yet in my opinion. I like the look of the Khainite Shadowstalkers too, I’m wondering if we’re going to see Order warbands from each of the realms (and Destruction and Death warbands in future years – I may be dreaming too big there but I’m going to dream anyway!)

I wasn’t expecting the Shadowstalkers at all! It does suggest that they are going to do do a cycle of non-chaos releases beyond the current AoS repacks which is interesting. I am actually hoping that they do Warcry rules for the Warhammer Underworlds releases – I like most of sculpts in the range, but the collectable card game engine leaves me cold.

I completely agree with you there, as a game Underworlds just doesn’t sound like my thing (as opposed to Warcry which I actually understand how to play – a first for me in a long time, usually my brain collapses as soon as game rules come near it). The Underworld’s models are amazing though, pretty much every single gang has been fantastic. I’m happy enough buying things just to paint but it’d be nice to get them out in a game from time to time and for me Warcry is the place to do it. I’ve got a couple of Orc brutes kicking around so I’m thinking I’ll add them to Ironskullz boys and make a Warcry warband out of them, and some of the others fit pretty well with existing rules (the Karadrons, the ghouls and the new Daughters of Khaine would all make good starts for warbands just using the existing cards). I’d love to have rules for the wolf riders though, those dudes are just awesome and sitting pretty high on my “to buy” list at the moment.
