Funded back in 2016, I was an early backer of the Secret Weapon Miniatures Dungeon Mines Kickstarter and I finally got my pledge last month! Work and family commitments mean that I have only just got around to opening up the several kilograms of terrain.
Getting the ‘bad’ out of the way first: all too predictably this Kickstarter ended up running nearly a year late in the end due to a combination of shipping and production issues and I am conscious that some EU backers are still waiting on their pledge to arrive 😦 That said, I am enough of a Kickstarter veteran that this is kind of expected and I pledged without any particular date/gaming project in mind. I really like Secret Weapon’s products and I like to support smaller gaming companies when they are doing new ventures.
On the ‘good’ side, I am really pleased about the quality of the tiles and walls: detail is pretty good and the PVC material seems pretty durable so should survive handling pretty well.
I did a quick wash of all of the floor piece in warm soapy water to give it a quick clean, sprayed with black undercoat when dry, very roughly basecoated with Skavenblight Dinge, spot recess washed with Typhus Corrosion and Agarax Earth Shade. When dry I then spot painted Castellan Green in odd areas to represent damp mould and then over drybushed Dawnstone Grey. Finally then picking out the wooden planks with Dryad Bark and spot drybrushed the dirt with Baneblade Brown. All in it only took me around couple of evenings to do finish all of the floor tiles – here is a work in progress pic:
I still need to do all of the wall pieces and I expect that will take a bit longer to get around to doing. These should be great for fantasy RPGs/Dungeon crawling or as substitute tiles for Dungeon Saga/Advanced Heroquest, but in all likelihood I will most likely use them for playing through a campaign weekend of Frostgrave: Into The Breeding Pits. I got the equivalent of two small starter sets, but I’m now feeling that I might need another set or I might look for a complementary/compatible modular terrain set which is also based on a 1″ grid.
