Fragmonkey has organised a Horus Heresy 30k narrative escalation campaign to encourage people to get their armies painted (search for ‘Heresy @ HATE: Doomsday campaign’ on Facebook). All in there are 32 players in all, with a mix of Heresy veterans and newbies covering the full range of Legions, Mechanicum, Militia and Talons of the Emperor.
I managed to get in my first game last night – a simply 900pt skirmish versus Loyalist Dusk Raiders:
Tagmata Cyclothrathe lead by Magos Dominus Kovac battle against Loyalist Dusk Raiders to take control of the dropzone. The Dusk Raider Graven Wardens are first to draw blood (or should that be coolant) by cutting down the advancing Thallax and Castellax using a barrage of krak and toxin grenades.
Kovac resorts to personally leading his remaining Castellax to charge through the alchemical fog to engage the Deathshroud in close combat. A bloody melee ensures and while Kovac himself falls the Dusk Raiders are defeated. The surviving thralls dutifully mill around the dropsite awaiting for a new master to arrive.
