Chaos Cultists, Mutants & Traitors Part 4: The Covenant of the Octet Pantheon

‘The Prophet Ghore preaches the revelations of the Word of Blessed Lorgar to the illiterate and dispossessed. We of the Covenant believe in the sacred Octet: the Four Eternal Primordial Powers and their Four Scions that will come to be by revelation and Apotheosis. Embrace the Prophet’s teachings for unlike the False Emperor, the Primordial Powers are generous in their blessings both of flesh and spirit to those who are loyal . . .’ Malgrist, Mutant & Disciple of the Octet Pantheon.

The origin of the Covenant is tied to the destruction of the Khurian city, Monarchia by the Ultramarines – a chastisement of the Word Bearers sanctioned by the Emperor.

Malachi Ghore was one of the survivors of Monarchia to have been taken in by the Flayed Hand Chapter of the Word Bearers.

Revered as a holy martyr, Ghore was nursed back to health and tutored in the revelations from the Book of Lorgar by Chaplain Valsavis of the Flayed Hand (a favoured acolyte of Erebus). Valsavis recognised Ghore’s talent for oratory would be an effective conduit through which baseline humans could be recruited to Lorgar’s corrupt cause.

The Covenant had grown to be over ten thousand cultists strong by the time of Calth’s Betrayal, being fully involved in the surface fighting against the Ultramarine’s human axillary forces. While many of the warp cults on Calth were spent in sacrifice as part of Erebus’ ritual to raise the Ruin Storm, the fates were relatively favourable to the Covenant as they escaped Calth to participate in the subsequent Shadow Crusade against the 500 worlds.

Here is my finished model of Malachi Ghore:

Awesome work on the model and background. Full of character. The golden mask reminds me of the Sons of the Harpy from GoT.

Thanks – the mask is from the GW Dark Elves Witches range. The GoT observation is an interesting parallel which I hadn’t consciously considered, but now you point it out it seems obvious. I did originally have something in mind along the lines of Michael Moorcock’s Melniboneans (which were the original inspiration for Dark Elves) or The Dark Empire of Granbretan.

  2. Excellent! More photos please. Love the fluff to mate
